Improve Your Smile
Orthodontics is a treatment to correct tooth misplacement, including the use of braces.
Orthodontics make your smile more confident, and your mouth healthier. The proper placement of your teeth provides you with a correct bite, allows you to clean your teeth properly, and reduces the risk of cavities and gum disease.
At what age can I get braces?
The ideal age for getting braces is between the ages of 10 to 14 when teeth are easier to straighten. However, more and more we are seeing patients of any age who wish to correct problems using orthodontics. New technologies, such as Invisalign braces (a series of clear plastic aligners) and lingual braces (attached behind the teeth), allow individuals to take advantage of orthodontics without suffering the embarrassment that traditional brackets and wires can cause.
Are braces difficult to care for?
Routine care is important to keep your teeth healthy while your braces are on. We recommend that you follow a daily care routine that includes:
- Use tools created specifically for braces, such as floss threaders, to keep food out of your braces and keep the area between your teeth clean.
- Brush with fluoride toothpaste – we may prescribe for you a prescription strength fluoride toothpaste while you are in braces.
- Use antibacterial mouthwash.
- Keep regularly scheduled cleaning and exam appointments. Sometimes the frequency of these cleaning visits needs to increase for patients who have a difficult time maintaining a healthy mouth while in braces.
The better you care for your teeth while your orthodontics are on, the more pleased you will be with the results when your braces are removed.
Dr. Sackman, Leesa and the staff know how to take care of people. I have seen Dr. Sackman speak about the work he does and it is clear he is educated and committed to providing excellent care for his patients.
We’ve been patients at Redmond Family Dentistry for years. Mostly we see Dr. Sackman, who is pleasant and takes time to explain things. His staff are wonderful too. At the front desk, they take time to walk you through insurance, billing, and costs of recommended treatments. The hygienists do a good job with cleanings, which, let’s be honest, are nobody’s favorite way to spend an hour. They have been great with my daughter since she was little.
This office is AMAZING. I can’t say enough good things about them. I needed to have a root canal done pretty urgently and they did everything possible to fit me in within my timeframe. They referred me out to an endodontist for the actual root canal, but all the other work was done in their office. Dr. Whittle did most of my work and she was awesome. The assistants were really great as well. They were exactly on time, never a wait. They numbed me well and were concerned about my comfort. I really really really hate the dentist, hence waiting until I had to have a root canal, but I will definitely be going here again.
